Abstract

Imaging is the set of techniques and processes used to create images of the human body, or parts of it, for clinical and diagnostic purposes, and includes the study of normal and functional anatomy.

Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, from Germany, in 1895, took the first steps in the development of radiographic imaging, and the accelerated development of technology has allowed to expand the horizon of treatments and diagnoses available to the dentist.

Imaging studies are carried out with forms of energy such as: X-rays, sound waves, radioactive particles or magnetic fields through the body. The changes in the energy patterns produced by the body's tissues create an image to show structures of the body and indicate normal functions, as well as abnormal ones, caused by diseases such as cancer and all types of tumors.
