This article is the product of a non-experimental, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study, which analyzed the oral condition and risk factors for oral disease in pregnant women, children from 0 to 3 years of age and their mothers, who attended a consultation from March 2012 to December 2013 at the Healthy Baby Clinic in Dentistry at the Doctor Ricardo Jiménez Núñez Clinic, in the Goicoechea DOS Health Area of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund, using the epidemiological indexes: CPOD Index, ceo-d Index, the Modified Löe & Sillness Periodontal Index and the Caries Risk Factor Questionnaire. The population analyzed consisted of 739 subjects: 197 pregnant women, 271 children from 0 to 3 years of age and their 271 respective mothers.
The results obtained in the population are: in the group of pregnant women a prevalence of caries of 41.62% was found, a group CPOD Index of 7.35, poor control of bacterial plaque in 15.23% and a group Modified Löe & Silness Index of 7.35. In the group of mothers of boys and girls, the prevalence of caries was 41.7%, the group CPOD index was 8.03, poor plaque control was 39.48% of them, and the group Modified Löe & Silness Index was 14. In the child population, the prevalence of caries was 4.06%, the group ceo-d index was 0.37, the prevalence of poor plaque control was 2.58% of boys and girls, the group Modified Löe & Silness Periodontal Index was 1.73, and the Caries Risk Index was 31.35. Within these risks, it is noteworthy that 59.78% use a pacifier as a means of feeding and that 71.6% of children fall asleep with their mouth uncleaned.
