Oral health and risk factors for oral disease in pregnant women, boys and girls 0-3 years old and their mothers

Abstract

This article is the product of a non-experimental, observational, descriptive, transeccional study where oral
status and risk factors for oral disease in pregnant women,in children aged 0 to 3 years and their mothers, who
consulted during March 2012 to December 2013 in Dental Healthy Baby Clinic Doctor Ricardo Núñez Jiménez
Clinic en Area de Salud Goicoechea Dos were analyzed by epidemiological indices: DMFT Index, dmft Index,
Löe & Sillness Modified Periodontal Index and Risk Factors of Caries Questionnaire. The study population was
formed by 739 subjects: 197 pregnant women, 271 children aged 0-3 years old and their 271 mothers. The findings
were: the group of pregnant women had a prevalence of 41.62% caries, DMFT Group Index was 7.35, poor plaque
control in 15.23% and Löe & Silness Modified Group Index was 7.35. In the group of mothers of the children was
found 41.7% caries prevalence, DMFT Group Index was 8.03, poor plaque control in 39.48% of them and the Löe
& Silness Modified Group Index was 14. In the pediatric population, the prevalence of caries was 4.06%, the dmft
Group Index was 0.37, prevalence of poor control of bacterial plaque on 2.58% of the children, the Periodontal
Loe & Silness Modified Group Index was 1.73 and Caries Risk Index was 31.35. Within these risks, 59.78% were
feed with bottle and 71.6% of children sleep with their mouth without cleaning.
