The role of the dean is a critical factor in the success, quality, and reputation of a university. It is a pivotal position within the institutional structure, characterized by high complexity and requiring substantial preparation, commitment, and leadership from those who undertake it. This study presents the perspectives of 13 currently serving Latin American deans, who convened over several days in a shared space for collective reflection. The group was composed of diverse profiles in terms of experience, gender, academic discipline, and nationality. The study captures their self-perceptions regarding the execution of the dean’s role, as well as their discussions and recommendations concerning some of its core responsibilities.
