Complexity and Practice: The Ideal Teaching Profile for the Year 2025

Abstract

This article critically examines the construction of the Ideal Teacher Profile in Costa Rica, as defined by the National Qualifications Framework for Education Careers (hereinafter NQF-EC-CR) for the year 2025. From a sociological perspective, the NQF-EC-CR (2021) is analyzed as an instrument of global educational governance, aimed at formalizing and legitimizing the teaching vocation. For this reason, the analysis focuses on the application of Weber's concept of the Ideal Type, understanding it as a model of rationality that establishes "milestones for the progressive development of quality" in teaching practice (Weber, 2014). The distinction between legality (legal norms of the Framework) and legitimacy (socially shared beliefs) is addressed, proposing that the document is a strategy of legal-rational domination in the field of teaching (National Qualifications Framework, 2021). Finally, the study breaks down the five competencies that support the profile and specificity of training in Science Teaching, concluding that, although the Framework sets a rigorous standard, its limitation lies in its inability to regulate the ethics of contingency and the individual responsibility that defines teaching work in the classroom. All of this is approached through a qualitative and exploratory methodology using bibliographic review research techniques (Hernández-Sampieri & Mendoza, 2018) to ensure an innovative contribution to the national discussion on the education crisis.
