Abstract

This article analyzes the evolution of China’s influence in Latin America during the 21st century, aiming to understand its economic and geopolitical implications. Using an analytical approach, the study examines three main dimensions: the development of economic and trade relations, the mechanisms of influence employed by China, including investment, financing, and infrastructure, and the impact of this presence on the regional balance of power in relation to United States.

The findings show a sustained growth of China’s presence in the region, characterized by a significant increase in bilateral trade and a greater involvement in strategic sectors.

Additionally, the study identifies that this relationship has generated both economic development opportunities and risks associated with dependence on primary commodity exports. From a geopolitical perspective, a gradual transformation of the balance of power is observed, with China emerging as an increasingly relevant actor without fully displacing the historical influence of the United States.

In conclusion, the relationship between China and Latin America represents a complex phenomenon that combines elements of cooperation and competition, posing challenges for the region’s autonomy and sustainable development.
