Abstract

If there is one certainty in Oral Medicine, it is that tobacco consumption in all its forms has a variable quantification impact on the cells of the mucosa lining the oral cavity and that, ultimately, it considerably increases the risk of oral pathologies. Recent studies indicate that toxic components of tobacco, such as nitrosamines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, can induce histopathological changes in the oral mucosa.
