Abstract

This article analyzes the role of Latin American feminism as a counter-hegemonic force in transforming the patriarchal character of the state in Latin America from the 1980s to 2025. Following the processes of democratic transition in the region, feminism has emerged not only as a social movement but also as a political actor capable of challenging the historical power structures that have shaped the state. In this sense, the research examines the extent to which feminism has managed to challenge these patriarchal structures and generate changes within the state sphere.

Methodologically, a qualitative approach is employed, based on the documentary analysis of academic literature and institutional reports. The study first examines the historical configuration of the Latin American state as a structure permeated by patriarchal power relations. Second, it analyzes the emergence and consolidation of feminism as a political actor in the context of democratization. Finally, it evaluates its impact on state reforms, regulatory frameworks, and public policies related to women's rights. Finally, the main challenges that feminism currently faces in light of the persistence of these structures are identified.

It is concluded that, while feminism has made significant progress in transforming the State, its counter-hegemonic character continues to face structural limitations that demonstrate the persistence of the patriarchal order in Latin America.
