Submission Guidelines (Opinion Articles)

Before submission

The use of AI for writing will be considered plagiarism (understood as AI being the one to draft the article).

Authors will be fully responsible for the comments and opinions expressed in their work, and release Revista Gaudeamus and Universidad Latina de Costa Rica from any liability that may arise from the statements made in the publication.

Articles that involve experiments on human subjects must be accompanied by an approval document from the Ethics Committee of the institution where the study is conducted. No data that could identify the study participants should be included, neither by their names or characteristics nor by their images in photographs, except with their express written consent. The original consent document must be submitted to the email revistaulatina@gmail.com

Copyright: By submitting an article, the author grants the journal the rights of publication and distribution. Authors are advised to keep a copy of their work for their own records. Authors retain full copyright and publishing rights. Authors grant Universidad Latina de Costa Rica a license to publish and distribute the work under a  Licencia de Atribución Creative Commons , which allows others to share the work with recognition of the authorship and the initial publication in Gaudeamus.

Originality: Articles must be original. Plagiarism detection tools will be used.

Submission and Review Process:

Submission: Manuscripts to the Academic Journal Gaudeamus must be sent to the following email address: enviosrevistagaudeamus@gmail.com

Email: All individuals who participated in the drafting of the document must be copied. The subject line must indicate: Article Submission or Bibliographic Review Submission, as applicable. The document must be attached in Word format in the body of the email.

Review: Authors will be informed of the acceptance, return for corrections, or total rejection of the manuscript within an approximate period of 3-5 days. Submissions are reviewed under the single-blind modality, in which the author or authors do not know the identity of the reviewers, while the latter do know the identity of the authors.

Considerations:

  1. The use of artificial intelligence for the direct writing of the work or for the creation of the cover image will automatically result in the document being discarded for publication, in accordance with criteria of academic authorship, originality, and intellectual responsibility.

Plagiarism and AI-detection tools may be used.

  1. Certain errors, such as incorrect line spacing, spelling mistakes, formatting issues, or cover page problems, may be corrected without returning the manuscript, provided that such errors do not exceed 30% of the total work or directly interfere with the publication rules.

Confidentiality: All articles will be treated confidentially until publication.

Instructions

The article may be submitted through the website. It may correspond to an original research paper, clinical case, or a literature review, and must be submitted in electronic format (Microsoft Word for PC or compatible).

Cover Page: It must include an image related to the bibliographic review. This image can be sent through the same email used to submit the document (enviosrevistagaudeamus@gmail.com) and must contain the title of the article, the year, and the name of the author or authors. The use of AI-generated images, photographs of children, and content with explicit violence is not permitted.

On the first page, the following must be included:

  1. Title of the bibliographic review in Spanish and English (centered)

  2. Full name of the author or authors

  3. ORCID identifier (if available)

  4. Institutional affiliation (only if the author is a professor, university student, or affiliated with an academic institution). Otherwise, indicate “independent researcher”.

  5. Country

  6. Email address of the author or authors

(All of the above, except for the title, must be right-aligned.)

Lenght: Articles must be written in english and have a maximum of 2500 words, although exceptions may be made (excluding the abstract, keywords, references, tables, figures, and appendices).

Articles must follow the guidelines of the Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition (2019).

Keywords: These aim to select descriptors for reference searches in journals included in electronic databases. Choose four keywords in Spanish and English that help indexing services classify the study.

Context: In this section, the author should situate the reader within the framework of the topic. Briefly present the phenomenon, debate, or current situation motivating the article and provide the necessary background to understand it. It is important to define the scope of the analysis and explain why the topic is relevant for public or academic discussion.

Introduction: The purpose of the opinion article must be stated, and the author’s central position on the topic must be formulated. The problem or issue addressed should be clearly identified, and the relevance of discussing it justified. The introduction should be clear and concise, allowing the reader to understand the perspective from which the article will be developed.

Development: The development constitutes the core of the opinion article. Here, the author presents and analyzes the main arguments supporting their position systematically. Different approaches or perspectives on the topic may be contrasted, and arguments may be supported with data, examples, or relevant references. The development must maintain a logical structure, conceptual clarity, and argumentative coherence, avoiding unsupported statements.

Conclusion: This section summarizes the main arguments and reaffirms the author’s position. Final reflections, implications of the topic, or recommendations may be included, maintaining consistency with the arguments presented in the development. The conclusion should clearly state the defended position and provide a well-founded closure of the article.

References: All references must be listed alphabetically, without numbering, inserted in the text (not in footnotes), and written in lowercase (except for the first letter), following APA publication standards.
