Abstract
This article analyzes the human rights situation in El Salvador focusing on the security policies implemented by the government of Nayib Bukele. It examines the evolution of the maras, their impact on violence and insecurity, as well as state responses, which have been characterized by a punitive and violent approach that has led to the consolidation of a state policy that systematically and pervasively violates human rights
